My name is Phuong Uyen Than, also known as Uyen and Linda. I will be turning 52 this December. I was born into a Vietnamese countryside family in the Southern region. In 1992, I became a refugee along with my parents and ten siblings, seeking shelter in the United States of America. My father had actively participated in the Vietnam War, fighting against the Northern Communists alongside the US Armed Forces for over seven years until the Communists took control of our country in 1975. We were sponsored by the US government and received a warm welcome to the USA upon my father's release from prison several years later. Since 1993, we have been residing in Lancaster City, where we have established ourselves in business and education. I got married in 1997 and am a proud mother of two college-graduated children.
Over the years, I have been actively involved in volunteer work at the Lancaster Youth Intervention Center, providing hope and support to young individuals. Additionally, I have dedicated my time as a voluntary manicurist, offering manicures and pedicures to elderly women in various nursing homes, bringing joy and happiness to their weekends for over fourteen years.
Recently, I, along with some friends, co-founded a non-profit organization called Big Hug Inc., where I hold the position of president. Big Hug Inc.'s mission is to assist the elderly, ill, lonely, and homeless individuals in need. Our ultimate goal is to acquire a food truck to cook and prepare warm, fresh meals that we can deliver to those in need.
I am determined to achieve all the objectives I have set while my health and strength still permit me to do so. May God bless and guide me in my endeavors!
